Your journey from Marrakech to Fes is a profound immersion into the heart of Moroccan culture, offering a breathtaking mosaic of Berber villages and ever-changing landscapes. We depart at 8:00 AM, ascending the majestic High Atlas Mountains to reach the Tizi n’Tichka Pass at an altitude of 2,260 meters. Our route then leads us to the historic village of Telouet, where we will explore the ancestral Kasbah of the Pasha, a hidden gem of Moroccan history.
From there, we continue to the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, a definitive highlight of this expedition. As the best-preserved fortified village in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage site, it stands as a living symbol of Berber architecture. Its timeless beauty has made it a preferred filming location for world-renowned Hollywood productions. After a guided visit and lunch, we will head to Ouarzazate to visit the famous Film Studios and the historic Taourirt Kasbah. Our afternoon continues through the lush Skoura palm groves and the fragrant Valley of the Roses, where we will pause for panoramic photos. We conclude our first day by following the winding paths of the Dades Valley, known for its fields of figs and roses, to spend the night in a traditional guesthouse nestled within the Dades Gorges.
Today’s journey takes us through a spectacular tapestry of Berber villages, traveling between the majestic High Atlas and Anti-Atlas ranges. We begin with a panoramic stop in Boumalne Dades to capture the breathtaking scale of the valley before continuing to Tinghir, where we will explore its fascinating Old Quarter. The route then leads us deep into the lush Todra Palm Grove until we reach the awe-inspiring Todra Gorges. With limestone cliffs rising over 300 meters, this is a world-renowned destination for climbing enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
Our expedition continues through Jorf and Erfoud, the gateway to the desert, until the golden horizon of Merzouga appears. Here, the highlight of your journey begins: a sunset camel trek into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes. This immersive experience offers a profound sense of peace and joy as you watch the sun dip below the highest dunes in Morocco. To conclude this magical day, you will enjoy a traditional dinner and spend the night at an authentic desert camp, sleeping under a breathtaking canopy of Sahara stars.
This third day is dedicated to a grand adventure across the diverse landscapes of the Merzouga region. We begin our exploration with a camel trek through the shifting sands before joining our 4×4 vehicle to visit the village of Khamlia. Here, you will be captivated by the soulful, spiritual sounds of Gnawa music, an ancient art form recognized for its deep history and rhythmic beauty, followed by a live performance of traditional dance.
Our journey continues to Taous, where we will visit a nomadic family living in traditional tents. This unique encounter offers a rare glimpse into their ancestral way of life and the chance to discover ancient rock engravings nearby. We will also explore the desert lake of Dayat Srji, a serene oasis that often attracts migratory birds. After these unforgettable cultural encounters, we return to Merzouga to meet our camel caravan once again. As the sun sets, we head back to our Sahara camp to enjoy a magical evening of Berber music by the campfire, spending a second enchanting night under the infinite desert stars.
On the final day of our expedition, we journey from the golden dunes toward the spiritual capital of Fes, traversing the dramatic landscapes of the Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop is the city of Erfoud, world-renowned for its unique fossilized marble; here, you will have the opportunity to visit a specialized museum to admire these ancient natural treasures.
As we continue through Errachidia, we will marvel at the vast palm groves of the Ziz Valley before reaching the village of Zaida for a traditional lunch. In the afternoon, the scenery shifts as we enter the lush Middle Atlas forests, where we will have a final opportunity to observe Barbary Macaques in their natural habitat. Our magnificent journey concludes as we reach Fes in the late afternoon, marking the end of an unforgettable 4-day desert experience that has connected the very best of Morocco’s landscapes and culture.
